Opened in 2014 on the Spanish island of Ibiza, Sublimotion is so much more than just the world’s most expensive restaurant. It’s dining at its most surreal, futuristic, and thought-provoking.
Under the helm of double Michelin starred chef Paco Roncero, this one-of-a-kind establishment pushes the dining experience in bold new directions by combining food, art, and illusionism into a novel, revolutionary concept that ventures far beyond the palate.
With its own musical menu, choreographed service to match, and groundbreaking technology to awaken your senses one bite at a time, a meal here is anything but ordinary.
During this theatrical gastronomic show, 12 lucky diners feast on avant-garde cuisine in a high-tech, interactive space called “capsule”, which serves as a blank canvas ready to be transformed into almost anything imaginable!
Architects and designers have joined forces with engineers, illusionists, and screenwriters to craft immersive audio/visual experiences to accompany Sublimotion’s Sci-Fi cuisine. The result is a spectacular 3-hour banquet that takes patrons on a journey through different times, places, and stages of emotion, from the bottom of the ocean to a sexy 20th century cabaret to a futuristic dinner with friends in 2050.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get any more exciting, here comes the new season. In 2017, chef Paco Roncero partners with some of the greatest names in the Spanish culinary world, including Dani Garcia, Diego Guerrero, Toño Perez, and pastry chef Paco Torreblanca, to offer guests at Sublimotion an unprecedented gastronomic experience, worthy of 8 Michelin stars.
Further contributors to this year’s show-stopping multisensory adventure include Alicante artisan José Piñero, Madrid-born artist Juan Carlos Paz, and world renowned soundtrack composer Alfonso González. Responsible for the sound is the famous DJ and music producer Wally López, who brings a taste of Ibiza nightlife to this theatrical dinner, while Spain’s brilliant illusionist Jorge Blass uses his talent to blur the boundaries of reality.
To complete the experience, diners will be handed a Samsung Gear VR (virtual reality headset) that will immerse them in a mind-blowing fantasy world during their meal.
Sublimotion is located inside Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza on Playa d’en Bossa and serves up Spanish avant-garde cuisine at its molecular best. A staggering 20-course tasting menu accompanied by wine and champagne is 1,500€ per person, but some say it’s a small price to pay for such a dramatic gastronomy-meets-virtual-reality experience.
