Owned by Kathrin and Brian, the LA-based couple behind We Are In Our Element design company, the Dome in the Desert provides a delightfully secluded escape from the bustle of city life.
One of Airbnb’s top rental properties in the area, this geodesic dome house is conveniently close to the artists’ enclave that is Joshua Tree and features two bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a chic living room. A meditation loft space filled with ethnic rugs, colorful throw pillows, and antique fortune telling games gives charm and character to the property, while a wood burning stove keeps the place heated during cold nights.
A striking mix of mid-century furniture, unique handcrafted pieces, and quirky bohemian details, the dome’s interiors are worthy of a design magazine. The structure’s curvy walls are plastered in bright white, but vibrant colors and interesting textures spring from every corner. Light pours in through the 5 skylights incorporated in the roof, and playful design items contribute to a funky, inviting ambience.
Kathrin and Brian envisioned this place as a peaceful, creative place to get away from it all, relax your mind, and revive your spirit, that’s why they’ve put a lot of effort and energy into renovating and designing this beautiful home. Many of the decor elements were created or repurposed by the couple themselves, while others were purchased from local vendors and carefully refurbished to suit their stylish abode.
Except for the complementary Wi-Fi, there are no high-tech distractions on the premises. Instead, you’re free to peruse the owners’ personal collection of antique books and games, or spend the night gazing at the stars.
A memory foam King Size bed in the master bedroom ensures you get an excellent night’s sleep, and the kitchen, complete with a selection of fancy coffee makers as well as refrigerator/freezer, oven/stove, and microwave, makes meal (or coffee) preparation a breeze.
The enchanting bohemian aesthetics along with the far-reaching mountain views and the limitless desert skies above make the Dome in the Desert one of the most alluring places to stay in California’s Mojave Desert.
